With designers like Rag & Bone, Derek Lam, and Calvin Klein highlighting white ensembles on the runways, it's more than clear that the colorless hue is going to be a big thing for Summer. Is it the new black? A color reserved for first-time brides only? The very absence of color? Or the latest trend in women’s fashions?
The color white conjures up a clean, cool crispness, perhaps even a minimalistic quality in the minds of many. No matter what your perspective on it, white has been showing up often at runways and in women’s ready-to-wear, along with its close counterpart, ivory.
True, it’s ironic for white to share the stage with the bold and vivid colors seen in the color blocking trend and juxtaposed against the patterns and prints that are so popular for summer, but many designers went so far as to have models dressed in white from head to toe.
So the question is: Has white made a comeback, or did it ever leave?
Our prediction: As long as we have warm weather, it’s a good bet we’ll see white in women’s fashions. It does have a certain lightness about it, an appeal that’s fitting for the season, and it’s extremely flexible.
